Ah, but some people do have very clear grey eyes that pick up colors around  
them.  Your quote indicates that the person described had very bright blond  
hair.
I went to high school with a girl who had these clear grey eyes and golden  
hair.  If she wasn't wearing a strong color shirt, her eyes picked up her  hair 
color and she looked like she had gold eyes.  Sounds very much like  the 
quote...
