I realize this is an older thread, but I skipped a few digests when
this list was rather busy and am just now getting back to them.
Clara von Ulm replied to me with:
> 2) The Barony didn't sponsor the contest, an individual did,
I don't remember that being mentioned on the web page or other
announcements anywhere. Although I don't see how it affects things.
> and that person _specifically_
> requested that the entrants contact her ahead of time.
Yes, she did request that. I didn't read that as a requirement, just a
courtesy. Next time, I will make sure to get explicit permission ahead
of time or not do such a thing. Most likely the latter, since I often
don't seem to plan for most SCA events very far in advance.
> 3) The winner for phylo and chutney was awarded "most
> original interpretation".
That is not how it was announced on the Ansteorra mail list, which is
the only place I've seen the winners given. The following is quoted
from the message about the contest.
> Winners for best redaction was Clara von Ulm with her tasty cheese
> with gammon on tostes and Sharon of Conway with her cheese wrapped in
> phylo and chutney.
It is possible that it was also announced differently in court, but the
details in court are often hard to hear. Is an "interpretation"
different from a "redaction"?

Congratulations Clara on your winning redaction. I believe that yours
was one of the dishes I liked. Because my message was already getting
so long, I didn't try to give a lot of the details of the contest that
were outside of my complaints, which is why I didn't mention your
winning. I, and I think others here, would be interested in hearing
more about your redaction for Digby's Savory Tosted Cheese.

There were a number of different interpretations of the recipe shown in
this contest, and if that was the main goal of the competition, then I
think it did succeed in that. The variations were much wider than I
would have expected.
