CE (Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era) are a fairly recent generally
accepted usage in academia to divorice religious issues from intellectual
studies. The revised Gregorian calendar is used as the base calendar
because it has been the internationally accepted and used calendar since the
early 20th Century.

In some cases, "Christian" replaces "Common."
