I wouldn't swear to it, but it might be because the temperatures attained,
combined with the chemicals used in a modern diswasher, might have a
deleterious effect on the hardening process. Metals are funny, sometimes,
and aluminum is REALLY funny, in so far as the types of stresses they can
and cannot deal with. As an example, a wooden beam will retain its ability
to bear weight past the point where a steel beam will sag and fail in a
fire.

Similarly, while the Calphalon pans may be quite fine in a cooking
situation, where the heat and food chemicals are of one type, the
combination of heat and detergents may cause problems.
