I assumed a cereal porridge.  And I happen to prefer my oatmeal with milk or 
cream.  But our personal likes and dislikes have nothing to do with the 
historical precedent.

I can make a case for porridge prepared with milk or cream, but I haven't 
found much to show that porridge was served with milk or cream.  As for the 
idea of milk toast, interesting, but closer to sops rather than boiled meal.
