I agree that 5 courses at once is a bit extreme to expect adequate room
at table to be reasonable.  However, I do like being served with
uncarved joints and birds at table.  It is always good in the SCA
to become knowledgeable of the art of carving gracefully.  It is
particularly gratifying to be able to perform such a companionable
service to friends at feasts.
