Robot-Coupe predates Cuisinart and is a French company. A second company,
Robot-Coupe USA was licensed to manufacture and distribute in the U.S.
Cuisinart was started by Carl Sontheim a U.S. born engineer raised in
France. The original food processor appears to have been developed in the
US, but manufactured in France. Sontheim supposedly worked from the
Robot-Coupe design to create a lighter machine for home use, so it is very
possible there are ties between Robot-Coupe and Cuisinart that aren't
readily apparent.
I did misspeak in one regard, Conair doesn't own Cuisinart. They hold the
right to use the Cuisinart trademark in the U.S.
