I just noticed that Johnnae has a very nice article in the most
recent TI (second quarter 2009) on barley water.

I'm not sure if it will appeal to today's youth who may be more used
to sweeter drinks, but then I've yet to try making barley water
myself and Johnnae does say something about the barley taste not
being very strong.

If she's willing to send it to me, I'll get it online in the
Florilegium. Otherwise you just need to find a copy of TI.

There are a couple of other possibilities by Johnnae and others as
well. In the BEVERAGES section of the Florilegium:

Non-Alco-Drks-art (18K) 6/17/08 "Non-Alcoholic Drinks in Period"
by Count
                                        Gunthar Jonsson, OL, KSCA.
Orng-Lmn-drks-art (10K) 4/11/07 "Orange and Lemon Drinks of Summer"
by THL Johnnae llyn Lewis, CE.
Bev-f-Hot-Day-art (12K) 9/26/08 "Medieval Beverages for a Hot Day"
                                        by Mistress Euriol of
Lothian, O.P.
