Not for my research but we have used it for student work and for educator work. 
It is a great way to teach kids about rights and responsibilities of their own and others works. 
I would suggest that it is also a great way to allow your work to be shared in the way that you want it to be shared. 
There is also an add in for word and open office that appends the creative commons marks to your work.
