columnist for "The New York Times" discusses how she compiled the most  
noteworthy recipes published by the paper since it started covering  
food in the 1850s. The resulting "The Essential New York Times  
Cookbook" is a compendium of recipes from chefs, home cooks, and food  
writers that showcases the history of American cooking."
