[Sca-cooks] Pennsic 40 Class Registration

I just got the notice that we did get our space, Tuesday the 9th from 5-7PM.

Here's what I sent for the book listing:
A Cook's List Gathering and Remembrance
Location: A&S 14
Calling all cooks! The members of the SCA Cook's List invite you to bring a
covered period dish and join in fellowship and sharing. This year, we take
this time to remember Mistress Minowara Kiritsubo (Kiri) who was an avid
cook and researcher. Please bring ingredient lists for your dish,
documentation is not necessary but welcome.

So it is a gathering with food and cooks, not necessarily a teaching
opportunity, although it usually ends up being a very knowledgeable group
and I usually learn something!

Scheduling a time to teach a class is done through the Pennsic University
staff, and the deadline has past, which is how I now know that I got the
time I requested. The class tents there are just basic shelter, there is no
cooking apparatus available in the main A&S area. There are people that
schedule the classes through the University and then teach in private camps,
giving a meeting point or really good directions to be included in the book.
You can always do an impromptu class and make announcements about it once
you get there (I've done kid's activities in camp a couple of times now in
the past and gotten a great response just from word of mouth).

So for Tuesday the 9th, please plan on bringing something wonderful to
share. If you want to try and teach, you might want to plan for something
simple that you could do informally.

Looking forward to finally meeting you!
Christianna

I am most likely actually going to make Pennsic this year Yea! ...my second
time, first being the ever-wet 2007.

To teach in the Cook's List space, do i have to apply to the Pennsic class
organizers? Or is this being organized by someone on this list? I ask
because i am not quite sure if i am ready to teach at such a huge and
illustrious event. If i did anything, it would be oriented to Ottoman food.
Is there hands' on cooking? Or is it mostly lecture and samplings?

On another note, i taught several classes at the lovely AnTir Culinary
Symposium this past weekend: 15 & 16 century Ottoman cuisine (mostly the
same history but new recipes :-) and late 16 c. Persian pulow (a total
experiment - and a delicious one).

I just got off the train in my town about 45 minutes ago, after a 22 hour
train ride, and i am sitting in the Peet's Coffee across the train tracks,
sucking down some excellent Sumatran.
