There is always the traditional way to eat potato pancakes, raw potato shredded,
mixed with onions and a egg or two, fried and smothered with appelsauce and sour
cream.  Absolutely Delicious!

It's a pun.  In German, one word for potato is "Erdapfel' or earth apple.  So
Himmel und Erde is earth apples, and apples from heaven.. or at least up in the
air on a tree.

The recipes I've seen are apples and potatoes cooked and mashed together, served
with fried onions,  and usually bacon or black sausage.

Bringing it somewhat period, I wonder if this could be a descendant of the apple
gesharb sauce found in Rumpolt.
