Then where do the chestnuts come from that are sold in the grocery stores?  There have been enough that I occasionally see them for sale down here in Ansteorra.

That may mean there still aren't enough to support a commercial harvesting of chestnut trees but they may be available. Since you need radially cut pieces the barrel maker is going to have to buy logs or specially cut lumber anyway.

Or maybe you can plant those chestnuts to start a very long range barrel making project...
