Is it possible that it originated another flavor, like ginger and was
adapted to chocolate? Like the possibility of potatoes replacing turnips in
some recipes?
Also, could the name "Whoopie" be "Whoo pie" and "Whoo" be a short form for
something? The Amish call them "Hucklebucks"
I too would like to see this woman's sources since she is the one everyone
is quoting.

I don't know exactly how a chocolate filled cake (often with crisco
cream filling) originated in medieval Germany prior to the voyages of
discovery which brought chocolate back to the Old World, but there you
have it.

So what exactly is this medieval German treat that is cake-like with a
filling?

BTW- Maine and Pennsylvania are having a war over them.
