I wonder if they could have misread 'ojos' for 'hojas'.  Leaves of rue
would make a lot more sense.

That would be logical if Huici was translating from old Spanish to modern Castillen but he was translating from Arabic.

hojas, leaves, ورقات
ojos, eyes, نظر

Can anyone read Arabic to tell us if the Arabic words can fit in?
