[Sca-cooks] filtering drinks

I work a lot with Aquavitae recipes and some of them are surprisingly
sludgy...
I strain a couple of times through pantyhose (usually knee highs)
- I treat them as
disposable so there is no pile of muslin to clean... Then I get a
large funnel, put a
coffee filter in, wet the coffee filter with distilled water and
slowly run the liquid though.
Depending on the sludgyness, it can take several hours and you way go
through several
coffee filters, but you get a crystal bright product usually with no
off-taste from the filter...

Subject:[Sca-cooks] filtering drinks
I made Clarea of Water from "A Brief Overview of Early Spanish
Cuisine"
edited by Eden Rain.
It is supposed to be clear but after straining through butter muslin
and
twice through a coffee filter it still has some sludge on the bottom.
Any
suggestion on how to strain it to get all the sludge out?
What I did was to ladle the drink out of the container after each
time it
had settled and left a small amount in the bottom to get rid of the
sludge
but that only work to a degree.
Thank you.
