[Sca-cooks] filtering drinks

I made Clarea of Water from "A Brief Overview of Early Spanish Cuisine"
edited by Eden Rain.
It is supposed to be clear but after straining through butter muslin and
twice through a coffee filter it still has some sludge on the bottom.  Any
suggestion on how to strain it to get all the sludge out?
What I did was to ladle the drink out of the container after each time it
had settled and left a small amount in the bottom to get rid of the sludge
but that only work to a degree.
