Good Stefan,

I have used Tesseract (http://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/) on a number
of occasions with fair results, though on a Windows box. It worked for my
purposes (transcribing documents prior to translating them) and has
reportedly gotten better since I last used it. There are many other OCR
apps out there, but this is the only one I am familiar with that I know
will work on a Mac and is also free. I hope this helps.
