One thing to be aware of if you move to PDFs is that PDFs display terribly
on small screens, while good HTML reflows to fit the screen size very
nicely. If you move to PDFs, you may find that people on mobile devices
avoid your site.

The number of people using primarily mobile devices is not actually that
small today, and is only going to grow. I might also point out that the
current layout is pretty mobile-hostile, since the fonts get itty-bitty on
mobile. I'm not sure how much of that is fixable given how badly word
generates html (1)

Have you considered taking submissions in markdown
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markdown>? I understand that any technical
hurdle may be too much for many SCAdians, but markdown is very very simple,
and translates pretty cleanly into html headers which would allow you to
keep a simple style guide and flow the page nicely.

(For an example of very simple styling that works nicely on small screens
to, I recommend https://bestmotherfucking.website/, although the text
itself has quite a bit of profanity)

(1) Although some of it is fixable, at least for the page
<http://www.florilegium.org/?http%3A//www.florilegium.org/files/FOOD/Barons-Taste-art.html>
I looked at by changing the rules for the MsoNormal class
