The same goes for the "family crests" you can buy (without any geneologic
lineage to the name's being confirmed, or your being proper one to display
them) at "national" fairs. Europe has definite rules as to who has the right
to display them and exactly where that is permissible.
The only people in the US I ever met who had the real right to display
English arms were a couple who lived across the street from my parents when
I was much younger.
As a child, the husband had even played at school with the present consort
of Queen Elizabeth II. Wish I had been older and understood. Would I have
ever bent his ear for stories!
