Salut Cozyns,

Lyonel aisai.

Her Highness says:
>Actually, nowadays the correct title for the handler of the money is
>"Chancellor of the Exchequer." This is the title being used at the
>Corporate level and, I believe, is the title they would prefer for
>everyone to use. It's a fairly new policy (by SCA standards, anyway)
>and hasn't really filtered down yet in several of the kingdoms -
>us included (probably because it takes so much extra breath to say).
>"Treasurer" is actually the mundane equivalent for what our money
>handlers do for our "club." However, both it and "Reeve," are still
>commonly accepted and understood, so I don't think we should draw
>and quarter anyone for using either term....

Absolutely.

Incidentally, the initial comment that sparked this was, "Treasurer is the
period term." This statement is incorrect. "Treasurer" is no more
*period* than "reeve." The problem with the term "reeve" is that reeves
were responsible for purchasing and maintaining goods, not just keeping
track of money. I'd advise any who believe "reeve" isn't period to read
Chaucer's _Canterbury Tales_.
