>From basic Scouting fire-building and cookery texts / experience, the
most basic heat reflector is the backlog (or a rack / stack of same...) 

Depending upon how well cured and how close to the coals and flames, a
good solid log or (supported) pile of logs on the back side of the main
fire also allows for pre-heats, warming, holding at temperature,
temporary storage of other utensils / materials, area for heat-drying
cleaned pots, and the banking of coals with heat reflection into any
facing shelter(s).
