I posted earlier in the year that I was thinking about a smoker, but
I still haven't made the purchase yet.
When we were out in New Mexico earlier this month, several of the
people at the Michigan alumni party that we attended were talking about
their
set-ups. They were getting ready to have a pulled pork cook-off or smoke-off
to determine bragging rights. Electric smokers are in. Plug them in and
they maintain the
proper heat.
The smoker that the supper brisket was made in that evening was made in a
Smokin' Tex. http://www.smokintex.com/ Also sold by Williams Sonoma.
You can use regular wood chunks in it.

Something that is new and is being advertised in the latest e mailing
from Sur la Table
is Mario Batali Granite Piastra which is this granite griddle stone. I
didn't see it in the
actual store last weekend when shopping for a wedding present, but it's
online at:
http://www.surlatable.com/product/596262.do
There's some discussion about these because they were featured in
Batali's new grilling book
but they couldn't be purchased.
Amazon had this note posted--
An order may be placed once the item is back in stock by calling Wilton
Industries, distributor of Italian Kitchen products, 1-800-794-5866,
Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30pm CST.
http://www.italiankitchen.com/ is the website.

They are now available and I am wondering if they will go on sale after
the season is over.
