[Steppes] More info from afar.....

Thank you for sharing your life experience. It does shed light on your
perspectives. However, I am not trying to debate the right or wrongness
of suicide, or the afterlife, or anything except the fact that I thought
that to send such a message to an open list is wrong. Some people are
offended at the concept of suicide, just as some people are offended by
pornography. I don't think either should just be spammed into the
mailboxes of thousands of list subscribers, only because I respect the
right of the individual not to have to see it. It has nothing to do with
my own beliefs, because I think that my feelings about suicide or
pornography or anything else are my business, and I will not push them
on anyone else.

Please, drop this thread. Please, out of respect to the subscribers of
this list, be a little more thoughtful to others when you consider
posting something that might cause harm, distress, or offense. Please do
not attack someone when they express outrage when such a post occurs.

Don Duncan

morally charged... interesting way to put it...

I saw the note... I guess depending on how one looks at life
one will garner different feelings about it.

I have spent a lot of the last 15 of my 22 yrs in nursing
with the terminally ill. I have seen and been a part of
things that some would call morally charged.

One thing that has bothered me, and i have repeatedly sought
to understand is how a culture, that has a predominant
religion that teaches us that the 'afterlife' is better than
we have on this plane, then clings to this plane of
existance with the tenacity of a newborn pup that clings to
its mother for all its life.

Some saw that letter as a 'suicide note' and others as a
plea for help.. I wonder how many, like me saw it as a plea
from beyond for us to understand and not mourn.

NO matter how you view it, the fact is he is in a place
where he no longer is ill, or unhappy.. that is something to
rejoice
in.

the christian bible says,
''to everything there is a season, a time and a purpose
under heaven, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to
mourn and a time to rejoice..."

The simple fact was, he is gone, whatever the manner of his
death, he chose the time and manner of his passing...
how many of us, will do the same in the future.. more than
many of you will be comfortable knowing about I can safely
bet.

In Hospice, one learns that death is a natural part of
life... we are all dying.. the manner we die is sometimes
not up to us.. and at other times it is. We can rationalize
a terminally ill person stopping treatment and 'giving up'
because they are
'terminally ill' - How many reading this knows someone who
did this? suicide.... just not as noticable...

Before anyone judges another... walk a mile in thier
moccasins and be damn sure that glass house you live in has
bulletproof
glass... One day it just might be you making a life and
death decision for another...or yourself.
