ST - Waterbearing at Gulf Wars

Xene here:

When a waterbearer or a chirurgeon works at a Resurrection point or goes
into a woods battle with a scout or a marshall, they should have the
non-combat authorization. A hold has not been called on that field.

************Warning - Personal Opinion***********************
As a previous Kingdom Chirurgeon and a waterbearer at several wars, I
*still* think that anyone who is not authorized should not waterbear *on the
field* during a large melee or a tournament. They can work the sides of the
field, but I worry about them getting knocked over or stepped on by fighters
with limited vision. This especially applies to anyone under 18. I'm a big,
tall woman, and I've almost been knocked down and stepped on accidentally by
vision-restricted fighters with high adrenaline levels, big shields, and
spears.
************************************************************

Why would we want to have authorization for waterbearers? Because they need
to know the rules about when they can and can't enter the field, just like
the chirurgeons and the fighters do. *You* might know the rules, but a new
person who volunteers at the event won't.

The Kingdom Chirurgeon and her deputies can sign the non-combatant
authorization form for waterbearers and chirurgeons. It is not difficult to
do, just exhibit knowledge of the rules for when you can and can't enter the
field, who holds the field and who can call you onto the field.

BTW, anyone who already has a combat or marshall authorization doesn't need
anything else. They are already authorized and have signed that little
waiver on the card.

Mistress Xene Theriane. OL, OP.

I understand that. However, it was misstated that this auth is required by
Gulf Wars rules as well, and it is not according to the Marshal in Charge
for Gulf Wars. So persons who cannot obtain the auth in the next ten days
will still be allowed to assist in waterbearing at Gulf Wars if they wish to
do this.

I've been in the SCA for over twenty years, have carried water in many wars
including since I moved to Ansteorra, and this is the first time anyone has
suggested I needed an auth before doing so. It was a puzzlement that I have
been trying to unravel for the last few days.
