FYI: The Great Storm hit Galveston Island on September 8,1900. They put in 
the papers that over 6000 were killed but that didn't take into account the 
hundreds of black and immigrant workers. They estimated that closer to 10,000 were 
lost. Check out the Galveston Historical Society.com for more information 
about Galveston Island during that time. Also a History channel presentation of 
"Isaac's Storm" documents the story of that horrific day. Isaac Cline was the 
local U.S. Weather Bureau meteorologist, and a survivor of The Great Storm.
