Heilsa,

3 weeks until Gulf Wars
How ready are you?
3rd Sunday of February - excellent weather
Wind down from gusts on Saturday
10 to 15 mph from South South East
Cooling with a reminder of a chill
That February belongs to the realm of Winter King
High of 62 F, while just earlier
Thoughts of Ice and that all jazz dance around
Light Blue on the horizontal, fading to dark blue in height
Outlined against the blue - silver of flight
Far removed from Kittyhawk

Another gentle seeking authorization
Came to play with family for support
Father face-off with son
A duel of fiberglass -
Score only known between the two
 From position as Marshal
Edge seem to belong to the Son
While some thought the Father
Just was being a Father

I have received an donation of 2 sets of elbow pads
for the loaner armor from two new people:
Brian
Josh

Melee practices for combat archer training
  1. Crossbows vs Heavies
  2. Knights vs Heavy fighters with support from archers
       See details below in section
          "Melee fights witness this day"

War in the East - Gulf Wars
March 11th through March 18th
See Black Star for message form Kingdom Earl Marshal
Troll will be open on Sunday, March 11th again this year.

If you are a member of the SCA, meaning that you have a
current "Blue Card" then you must present it at each practice
prior to taking the field and not have to sign the waiver.

On the other hand, if you do NOT have a "Blue Card", then you must
signed the waiver.

Please start drinking extra water several days prior to the day
of practice.

This is also true of going to an event, be it SCA related or not.
You will have a better time and enjoy yourself more
if you are hydrate before you start your activity.

Energy drinks may give you a lift, but will not carry you as far,
when compared to water and gatorade.

Remember - Pace yourself!

Everyone needs to bring water to the park. I would recommend
the following:

Please bring at least 1 gallon or more of water and gatorade
to replenish your energy levels if you are in armor and fighting.
Suggested of items you might wish to bring out:
- cold pickles
- oranges - energy bars - etc...
- Bring Chairs for you to sit upon.
- Sunscreen, a bright sun with some wind and...
- Hats
This time of year -
- Dressed in layers
- Stadium Blankets or something to break the wind
- etc...

Training involves separate levels of heavy fighting -
Basic level to "Good"
Man-At-Arms and/or Squire entry level
Centurion level

Melee/training witness this day:
Combat archery training scenarios:
Marshal in Charge: Ld Michael Kettering
HL William Blackdragon present as an observer
of Richard Nine Finger performance on the field
in order to report back to Earl Marshal, to aid
in authorizing Richard Nine Fingers as both
a heavy fighter and combat archer.
HL William assisted during the inspection process of
     the crossbow bolts.

First scenario:
Combat archers Duel
Lord Alvin with 440 in-lb crossbow and 24 bolts
     vs
Richard Nine Fingers with 400 in-lb crossbow with 24 bolts

First scenario:
Cross-bows being wield by
Lord Alvin and son
     Richard Nine Fingers

vs
Sir Mahdi with kite and sword
Sir Morgan with kite and sword
Centurion Richard with round and sword
HL Honour with buckler and sword
Lord Hosey with buckler and sword
John of Green with kite and sword

Object of 1st scenario -
heavy fighters advance across the field at a walk.
To provide necessary training of facing advancing force
with little pressure upon Richard Nine Fingers, as oppose to
a full blown charge.
Secondary effect demonstrate that if a fighter is aware of the
archer on the field, then that archer will not have a major
affect upon those fighters.

Second scenario:
Sir Mahdi with kite and sword
Sir Morgan with kite and sword

vs
Centurion Richard with round and sword
HL Honour with buckler and sword
Lord Hosey with buckler and sword
Lord Alvin with crossbow
John of Green with kite and sword
Richard Nine Finger with crossbow

Object of 2nd scenario:
Provide a shield wall with the archers back 10 feet,
providing archer support such as one might find during a
a static line battle such as one might find during the Ravine
Battle at Gulf Wars.

Third Scenario:
Sir Mahdi with kite and sword
Sir Morgan with kite and sword

vs
Centurion Richard with round and sword
HL Honour with buckler and sword
Lord Hosey with buckler and sword
Lord Alvin with crossbow
John of Green with kite and sword
Richard Nine Finger with crossbow

Object of 3rd scenario:
Provide a shield wall with the archers back 10 feet
on a restricted field such as one might find during a
bridge or gate or a town battle with lanes and houses.
The goal was for the archers to learn situation awareness
in regard to support of a shield wall, the real possibilities
of pulse charges through the shield wall, dealing with a charging
with a heavy fighter bearing down on them, while still being
able to maintain the minimum distance of 10 feet between
them and that heavy fighter in order to make a "legal" shot.

Individual fights prior and after the combat archery training
scenarios:
Centurion Richard with round and sword
vs John of Green with kite and sword
Sir Morgan with kite and sword
vs John of Green with kite and sword
Lord Kinoshita with two hand sword
vs Sir Morgan with kite and sword
HL Honour with buckler and sword
vs Centurion Richard with round and sword
HL Honour with buckler and sword
vs John of Green with buckler and sword
Brian with kite and sword
vs Sir Morgan with buckler and sword
Lord Hosey with single sword
vs Josh with buckler and sword
Centurion Richard with round and sword
vs Lord Kinoshita with two hand sword
Centurion Richard with round and sword
vs Lord Hosey with buckler and sword
John of Green with kite and sword
vs Sir Morgan with buckler and sword
HL Honour with buckler and sword
vs Josh with buckler and sword
Brian with buckler and sword
vs Lord Hosey with buckler and sword
Lord Alvin with buckler and sword
vs Sir Morgan with buckler and sword
Sir Morgan with buckler and sword
vs Lord Alvin with round and sword
