Go for it. I am only thinking on the particle side of life. My long term
artisan side became limited when I had children. I just know that if I had to
choose between fleece and a quilt I would choose the fleece to the amount of
heat I would get from it and the ease of folding it up and packing. Again all
the practicality.

But if you all like the other idea of a quilt and that is what the group
decides to do and go with by all means run with it. I am only throwing out
ideas. Nothing more. My next few months well be spent at wrestling matches for HS
students or Regional band concerts.

It seems to me, that a fleece cloak or lap blanket is something they could
very easily buy themselves. Essentially, all you need to do is buy a couple of
yards of the stuff. I'd prefer to see the gift(s) from the Steppes represent
its artisans, rather than the ability to run to the fabric store.

That said, I have a fleece super tunic, so I'm not down of fleece. I'm just
saying, it's not uniquely from the Steppes.

I like the idea of the quilt, as in it is a thing many hands could contr
ibute to, but they would all be textile hands. Why not -- a box, with room for
things from many hands, to show the range of our artistans. I don't know of
anyone who doesn't like a poem about them, their kingdom, etc., and wouldn't
that be a neat collaboration between our thriving C&I community and our bardic
community? So, it's not a quilt in the sense of a patchwork of fabric, but a
quilt in the sense of a patchwork of fabrications.

My two cents.

Oh I like the quilt or fleece blankets idea. Fleece blankets don't have to
be hemmed but can be embriodered on (I assume) or things added with
applicay. :)

Ronna was the one with the idea of the quilts.
But fleece you don't have to hem. My Cloak that is 25 years in the SCA is
robe fleece. It may not be period matirial but it will shed water and dirt
and
wrinkles better than anything and keeps you warm.
