Waterbearing is one of the primary areas at Gulf Wars in need of volunteers
strong of heart and fleet of feet!
I have heard from the Waterbearer Coordinator at Gulf Wars, Lady Murien.
Here are some suggestions for Volunteers and Fighters with respect to
Waterbearing (some of these come from Lady Murien, and some from me).

FIGHTERS:
No water will be offered via 'straws', only the squirt pop-tops; as per
requirements by the Chirurgeon's office. So if your helm does not
accomodate the squirt tops, please plan accordingly (ie you will have to
remove your helm). The Waterbearer station will provide pickles and
oranges for the fighters.

WATER STATIONS:
The main waterbearer point will be done at Hastings Field, with secondary
points set up at the Rapier and Archery range. Some coverage may happen at
the Equestrian and Greyhound fields, but they generally do their own
setups.

SUPPLY REQUEST OF ANSTEORRA:
Please bring donations of **clean, 2 liter soda bottles** and
**sport/squirt type tops**.
Its amazing how fast the fighters can destroy a water bottle during a day
of battle, so replacement bottles will be needed throughout the week.
Whenever I buy water bottles at the store, I spend an extra dollar for the
ones with the sport tops to pass along to the waterbearers. Worth their
weight in gold!

YOUTHS:
Young people may do waterbearing, but only on the sidelines, never on the
battle field.

VOLUNTEERS:
Waterbearer do not need non-combat authorization cards. Reminders:
Adult Waterbearers (18 or older) will never go onto the battle field unless
called to it by the Marshals. Waterbearers will water the fighters as they
come off the field or during a hold (only if you are called onto the
field). The Marshals at GW also suggest there may be some 'water-holds'
as needed.

If you've never done Waterbearing before, its very easy, the coordinator
will show you how. Please join in, it's a great way to meet folks and have
fun (though, hard work sometimes). Men and women alike can do this much
needed service!!

Be sure to check in at the Waterbearer stations before you begin work.
After done for the day, please pick up your Volunteer slips (known as
*chit's*), have the coordinator sign them, and turn them into the Volunteer
Point station for raffle ticket prizes and war points. A minimum of 2
hrs is required as volunteer points, but the station can use whatever time
you can give.

Wear comfortable clothing, close-toed shoes (fighters 'will' step on your
feet!), and a good hat! It's easy for the marshals to see a waterbearer
still on the field following a hold if they are wearing a hat. Plus, it
keeps the sun off your head.

REMEMBER:
Waterbearers never stop working! While the battle is going on, they are
filling the thermos' and bottle with water, while the hold is going on,
they are watering the fighters! It doesn't stop till the fighting is
done, and then they have to clean the equipment before the next day's
battles. So please volunteer to Waterbear!

In service,
Mistress Hillary Rose Greenslade, Co-deputy Volunteer Coordinator
along with Mistress Xene Theriane, Co-deputy Volunteer Coordinator
