Greetings unto the esteemed members of the Society:

The following announcement is from the Grand Council. Please direct
responses to the address below.

In service to the Society,

Meg Baron
President, SCA Inc.

---------

Greetings from the Grand Council, a committee reporting to the SCA's Board
of Directors.

The Grand Council is currently recruiting volunteers to fill out its numbers
and provide a cross-section of opinion in its continuing work. The council
consists of both kingdom appointed representatives and at-large members. If
there is someone you feel should be a member of the Grand Council, please
encourage them to apply. Only the Crown can appoint their Kingdom's
representative.

The Grand Council meets on-line, not in person. The list is open for reading
by anyone. Good e-mail access is required. We encourage applications from
people of all backgrounds, experiences and locations without any concern for
rank or membership status. Applications are being accepted via the Grand
Council's Web Page:

http://www.liripipe.com/sca/gc/

Applications should include SCA name, Kingdom/Principality of Residence, and
Local Branch, Modern Name, e-mail address, and any relevant SCA and modern
experience.

Nominations must be received by July 31, 2003.

The Grand Council functions as a think tank to the Board of Directors of the
SCA Inc. It is charged with formulating both possible changes to the
Governing Documents of the SCA, as well as suggesting procedural changes for
dealing with modern world problems and the SCA.

Recent discussions have included:
* Youth activities and waiver text
* The office of Minister of Children
* Creating a polling process for voting on changes and officers in a group
that allows for members outside the traditional area of that group
* Does the SCA need an official Code of Conduct
* Should the SCA do criminal checks/does a person's criminal past outside
   the SCA matter

The Grand Council is not involved in policy decisions or debate regarding
how the SCA is organized on the medieval and recreational level, except
where such organization impinges on the modern world.
