No disagreement here. I merely pointed out what appeared to be an 
error which forced me to admit to the possibility of others being 
hidden away somewhere, without investment of emotional energy, value 
judgement or opinion on my part. That, of course, is why having the 
original text is helpful. I'm sure if Pegge actually tried to cook 
from these recipes, he might have interpreted some of them 
differently.

But perhaps we, as a community, do occasionally show a tendency to 
taste blood in the water and go into a frenzy of criticism, and it's 
probably something that it would make us better people to watch out 
for...
