I'm not sure anyone ever ate hagfish with any regularity. As for lampreys, chop off its head and for culinary (and even anatomical) purposes it's an eel.

As for the others, hunger will drive people to eat tree bark, acorns (which taste bad unless properly processed), and bread made with sawdust. And tomatoes are in fact aesthetically beautiful; why would anyone avoid them unless there was some bozo spreading the word that they were poisonous?

In other words, what would possess a person NOT to try them?
