This was posted on another list I'm on, and doesn't actually mean cooking over a fire, but is related, in a way...  sounds like an interesting book, though.

This is a small, inexpensive book:

"Build Your Own Earth Oven, A Low-Cost, Wood-Fired Mud Oven; 
Simple Sourdough Bread; Perfect Loaves"
by Kiko Denzer $15

The author teaches you to make semi-permanent sand and clay ovens...All you 
need is some chunks of concrete for the base, some sand to make your 
form, 21 firebricks, and some clay you can dig up at your local 
claypit.  He does one chamber and two chamber ovens, with or without a chimney.
